Squeaky Wheel is an independent game studio based in Metro Manila. We mainly focus on original strategy and simulation games for the PC. To find out more about the games we make, click here. Because of the terrible traffic, we work virtually most of the week, meeting only once a week to plan out our weekly targets. If the idea of owning your time and working in your underwear appeals to you, then this might be for you! Our priority is to hire programmers based in Metro Manila, Philippines but if you feel very strongly about working with us on Academia go on and send in a resume.
We need someone who can help us program complex game systems and simulations for Academia : School Simulator. We specifically do not want "rock stars" or programmer "gods". We want someone who is dependable and responsible for their work and can generally get along well with us. A virtual office in a small team can also be difficult for some people to handle. You are expected to be pro-active and actively look for things to work on, rather than waiting for tasks to be assigned to you. That said, we value work-life balance, and we generally do not have active crunch time while working on our games.
Collaborate with designers to architect game systems to support game requirements within the defined technical constraints
Stay current with the state of the industry, and emerging technical innovations in the field
Write clear and well-structured C# code while bearing in mind performance, maintenance and compatibility requirements
Verify and validate that newly developed systems conform to the project’s goals without negatively affecting existing code
Find and fix bugs flagged by team members
Document implemented code when needed
Support the Lead Programmer in any ad hoc tasks and duties
Perform other programming related tasks
At least 2 years work experience in commercial programming or software development. Experience in a commercially released game is a plus.
Having a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is preferred
Considers himself/herself an intermediate programmer
Excellent knowledge of languages like Java, C++, or C# with good grasp of object oriented development. Someone knowledgeable in Unity3D and C# is preferred.
Proven ability to debug defects of a reasonable complexity
Able to plan and estimate their own tasks and ensure timely delivery of work
Self-motivated and pro-active with a strong work ethic
Excellent communication skills, ideally fluent in both Filipino and English
Likes strategy and simulation games
Lives in Metro Manila and capable of meeting with us once a week

We need some help creating art for Academia : School Simulator. Art requirements will be sent in batches to the the chosen artist as necessary, and deadlines will be relatively loose.
